Killing the president
Tuesday July 28, 2009

(George Bush)

On August 6th opens the exhibition Inimigos (Enemies), from the artist Gil Vicente, at Subterranea gallery, in Porto Alegre.

(Pope Bento XVI)

The artist, from Recife, will show nine large (2m x 1.5m each) self-portraits in which he appears almost killing a famous personality, such as Brazilian president Lula, ex Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso, the Pope, Bush, Ariel Sharon, and so on.

(president Lula)

Gil Vicente seeks a political dimension from the popular genre of self-portraits, putting himself in a reaction against nine social-politics and religious personalities. At the exhibition, the public is invited to testify these scenes trough the artist’s aggressive narratives, made only by black chalk on paper.
