Top 25 Album Covers Outside Lands 2012

Top List // Friday, August 10, 2012
As you may know by now, we are heading to SF's historic Golden Gate Park this weekend (August 10—12) as curators of all the artwork at the 2012 Outside Lands Music and Art Festival. Seeing that we work with a bunch of artists who make album cover artwork for some of the biggest bands in the world, we decided to celebrate Outside Lands by ranking our favorite album covers of those bands playing at this year's festival. That means Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, The Walkmen, Grandaddy... just go and see for yourself.

Nude Body as Landscape by Allan Teger

Juxtapoz // Friday, August 10, 2012
We are quite sure this debate will go undisputed; the nude body, when shot beautifully as someone like Allan Teger can shoot, can be quite impressive. Teger has taken the nude body and transformed it into a landscape, taking the bodies curves, unique characteristics, and shape and made it the playground of miniature figures.

The Glass Bottom Pool 24-Stories Tall

Juxtapoz // Friday, August 10, 2012
We don't normally marvel at swimming pools on this site, but when we saw this one today, we couldn't help but think this was the swimming pool of Bruce Wayne type parameters. At the Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Kangqiao (yes you read it right, the Holiday Inn) there resides a glass bottomed pool, 24-stories high. Yes, you can see what imminent death looks like while in swim trunks.

Valeria Rey Soto's Abstract Bouquets

Illustration // Friday, August 10, 2012
Originally hailing from Spain, Valeria Rey Soto is an artist and illustrator currently based in Olinda, 'an incredible little town in the Northeast of Brazil, full of art and music and tropical exuberance.' That tropical exuberance comes to life in Soto's colorful pen, marker and watercolor works, in which she delicately weaves floral patterns and abstract geometric configurations. Soto received her degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca, Spain.

Moebius x Alejandro Jodorowsky "Les Yeux du Chat"

Juxtapoz // Friday, August 10, 2012
We have been searching about these works that we saw from the late great Moebius when we were researching his work after his death earlier this year, and we finally found out yesterday that the work was Moebius in collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky for a small run comic Les Yeux du Chat. We read that it was made to be a gift to staff and friends of Les Humanoïdes Associés.

Blu in Sardinia, Italy

Juxtapoz // Friday, August 10, 2012
We posted of Blu’s mural in Madrid the other day, and today another in Sardinia, Italy. This site-specific mural speaks directly on the island of Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and currently in an economic crisis. Blu painted a large pair of green hands pouring military planes, tanks, oil drums, and more into a beaker. Other beakers contain natural and man-made elements of the island, many government related, all in experimentation.

Erotica // Friday, August 10, 2012
The best selling paperback book of all time-- no, not Harry Potter-- 'Fifty Shades of Grey', has inspired some wild and erotic artworks from artists around the globe. If your not reading it, your mom probably is. Either way, take a look at these pieces Saatchi Online has curated with themes of bondage and S&M influenced by E.L. James' erotic thriller.

Starting Tomorrow: Juxtapoz @ Outside Lands 2012

Music // Thursday, August 09, 2012
With the same anticipation as last year when Juxtapoz curated the art for the annual Outside Lands Music and Art Festival in San Francisco, we are looking forward to the pack of kids who drive up from Arizona to see Metallica headline, wondering why it’s 49 degrees and foggy in August in California. For the 5th annual festival Juxtapoz is back at art curation duties, braving the schizophrenic weather with a wide assortment of live painting, murals, installations, and interactive art from some of our favorite international artists.
