Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
We stopped by THIS Los Angeles for the opening reception of Gold Coast, an exhibition of new works by San Francisco based artists Daniel Gibson and Mike Bertino. The show's theme is around the idea of California, and the "vortex that happens between this kind of ambition and the illusion of indifferent coolness that bastardizes everything it comes in contact with."

Alex Pardee: Introduces his Juxtapoz.com Curation

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
"The opportunity help create content for Juxtapoz was the "counter" that I had always dreamed of having in front of me to give me that reason to reach out to some artists that I've loved, introduce myself, and finally say 'thank you'. So using the words Juxtapoz Magazine as my counter AND my crutch, I reached out to a handful of amazing artists, illustrators, photographers and sculptors, some already my friends, and some complete strangers that I had always been scared to say hello to, and asked them to be a part of my month-long hang out session on this site."

The Portrait Work of Alan Coulson

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
A beautiful series of portraits by London-based painter, Alan Coulson. Of course, being a portrait artist can be a crowded field, but there are some that stand out, not for a photoreal style but for the ability to capture a feeling and emotions in the work. Few do it better than Coulson. His work is currently on display at London's National Portrait Gallery for the ???? BP Portrait Award 2012.

A Sun Eruption, Captured

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
We are going to call this "solar art." Something so amazing, so incredibly documented, that it almost seems like it can't be real and it has to be a painting or digital manipulation. From NASA, "On August 31, 2012 a long filament of solar material that had been hovering in the sun's atmosphere, the corona, erupted out into space at 4:36 p.m. EDT.

Noga Berman's Construction Waste Rings

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
What better way to make use of some old construction materials than to utilize their beauty for some eccentric and unique jewelry? These gorgeous little fragments collected and crafted by Noga Berman ooze wabi-sabi, embracing the inherent and tattered quality of the material and refining these beautifully colored chips into a collection of rings that present themselves in a variegation of subdued and weathered tones that would look damn fine on your digits.

Raid71's 'Angels from Hell'

Illustration // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
We are really enjoying this series by illustrator Chris Thornley aka Raid71. Thornley's studies of classic motorbikes and their riders are sexy and streamlined, just like the bikes themselves. Thornley has created work for a number of illustrious clients including Gap, Levi's, and the New York Times.
