Every year, hoards of tourists descend on the town of Anna Paulowna in North Holland to see the millions of brightly colored rows of tulip fields. French photographer, Normann Szkop, seized the opportunity to get an aerial view by catching a ride in a small plane and shot some photos that show a completely different perspective.

Polish artist Jaroslaw Kukowski interprets the models in his paintings in a very straight forward way- creating photorealistic works in oil of various of nude subjects, he includes a somewhat obvious prop in his work, the actual paint. Engaging the subjects of his pieces with exactly what brought them to life, he is passing the most important element into his works, from his hand into theirs.

As you will soon see in our March 2013 issue, we have a great 12-page feature with Los Angeles-based Victor Castillo. We like to call this perfect timing; Saturday, February 2, Castillo will open Under Heavy Measures at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition features 15 paintings on canvas, 10 paintings on paper, 20 graphite drawings on vellum, and an installation of fiberglass sculptures.

Believe it or not, there was actually a coffee void in an area of Williamsburg, Brooklyn? Yep, the first JMZ stop (Unless you prefer McDonalds coffee and we aren’t mad at you if you do) has been without anything of quality since the beginning of time and our friends decided to change that. Otha’s was established only a few months ago and tonight, February 1, 2013 they are throwing their first art show entitled “Studs & Broads” with local Brooklyn-based illustrator, Avi Spivak.
