I'm Not Here by Pol Úbeda Hervàs

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, January 16, 2013
How can we accept that we are changing? How can we accept we hardly recognize ourselves in certain situations? I am changing at this very moment of my life. I do not react in the same ways I used to. I am surprised. Is that me? These pictures are the way I see myself now.

Behind the Curtain: Barbara Kasten @ Jessica Silverman Gallery, SF

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, January 16, 2013
On view until January 26 is Barbara Kasten's Behind the Curtain at Jessica Silverman Gallery in San Francisco. These photographs depict beautiful abstractions of space, light, form, and color that are presented in an unusual gallery arrangement that is very low-lit, itself a worthy subject for one of Kasten's photographs. Definitely worth a visit if you can catch it before the last day.

The intensely detailed drawings of Sam Vanallemeersch are intricatley anarchic, obsessiveley loud and slightly manic. Vanallemeersch is an Antwerp based illustrator with an awe-inspiring collection of graphic work featuring a impressive amount of doodling that is so complex that one must wonder where his drawings begin and end.

El Grio's Minimalism

Illustration // Tuesday, January 15, 2013
An immediate favorite, the artist El Grio captures the beauty of simplicity in his paintings and depictions of mundane objects. Often featuring one object at a time, El Grio renders them much like a still-life, in their typical environment, very ordinarily. Raw and un-embellished ubiquitous subjects are his specialty.

Brian Donnelly's Dog-Faced Erotica

Erotica // Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Inspired by books like "The island of Dr. Moreau" and "Frankenstein", his aim is not to recreate works based on fiction, but to create his own vision of cruelty. He models himself after the hap-hazard doctors of fiction, substituting his scientific practice for his artistic practice, and in doing so, he has become a fierce and unforgiving...
