Miami Beach Police tazer kid to death after doing graffiti

Graffiti // Thursday, August 08, 2013
Once again the excessive force taken by police officers has taken center stage in Miami, where local police tasered an 18-year-old boy to death Tuesday night after chasing him for doing graffiti. Israel Hernandez who was a skateboarder and artist, was doing graffiti on an abandoned McDonalds, which led to a chase and the eventual tasering. Hernandez recently launched his own skateboard line and had a number of shows featuring his artwork in local galleries. His sister was quoted saying, “He wanted to change the world somehow through art.”

"Her": A Spike Jonze Love Story

Juxtapoz // Thursday, August 08, 2013
We haven't heard from Spike Jonze in a bit, after the beautiful Where the Wild Things Are and the excellent Arcade Fire film, Scenes from The Suburbs. Now, he is back, and from the looks of it, the feel is another sublime, subtle piece of filmmaking and writing. Her is being billed as the Spike Jonze love story and a take on modern life, love in the face of technology and anonymous communication. The fill features Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Amy Adams, Olivia Wilde, and the voice of Scarlett Johansson. And it appears that Arcade Fire have done the film's score... check out the trailer after the jump!

Juxtapoz // Thursday, August 08, 2013
It gives Reed Projects great pleasure to introduce this exhibition and in particular, this artist to the gallery. Erik has been on our radar for quite sometime and when we first saw this series, knew immediately that it was right for Reed Projects. Erik is a self taught artist and a recognised (often outspoken) creative force in the regions visual art scene, unafraid to confront and challenge traditional fine art institutions, including those established to support fellow artists, Erik has successfully fought to be formally recognised as a professional artist.

The Wonderful Musical Animals Book and Prints on Kickstarter

Juxtapoz // Thursday, August 08, 2013
LA based artist and longtime Juxtapoz friend, Damon Robinson, ("Praise the Lowered" and "Lucha Leisure" mask beanbag chairs) has surprised us yet again with his first "kids" book. The Wonderful Magical Superfantastical Musical Animals, is a graphically sophisticated and beautiful book for the kid in all of us. He deftly challenges our imagination with half animal, half instrument, Victorian style specimens and the music they would play.  You can get some beautiful hand pulled prints and of course the book, for supporting the project on kickstarter.
