Last weekend my girlfriend Maddi Boyd (AKA KISS KISS ) made this amazing installation at this year's SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS music festival in Byron Bay NSW.
As the press release suggests: it was an on-site art installation of MAMMOTH light towers showcasing the work of well loved Australian and international artists: Ben Frost, Anthony Lister, Numskull, Bennett, Rico, Kiss Kiss, Meggs, Kid Zoom, James Jirat Patradoon, Gaetane, Cauchi, Anton Benois, Jaxie Yael, Atronic, Lukasz Karluk, Teazer, Mini Graff , Miss Link, Creon, SKEL and Kelsey Brookes.
Some of the bands that played at the festival: The Specials, Bloc Party, Happy Mondays, Flaming Lips and heaps more
You can see the full photo set of these on FLICKR here.

Maddi and Jaxie arrived a few days prior to the festival and started putting
it together with the help of Blair and Bennett. The images were compiled by
Maddi mostly from the artwork of Stupidkrap and Worlds End studio artists
and printed onto special backlit vinyl that would let light through effectively
at night-time.

I arrived the night before the festival to help and we pretty much worked
through the night, right up until the next morning at 11am when all vehicles
and equipment had to be off site - and as the doors opened. Maddi's vision
was for a kind of 'city' complete with structures of different heights,
powerlines and the imagery you might find on any big city street.

Top left image of skeleton girl is by Teazer.
One of my mash-ups.

The Astroboy paste-up is one of mine, pasted onto a 'billboard' type structure.
Numskull character on the front of this tower.

The creepy Eraserhead type face on the right tower is a self portrait by Esjay.
Tyre sculpture by Bennett, with images on this tower by KISS KISS.
James Jirat Patradoon masked man.

At night time all of the lights inside came on. There were 4 LED PAR lights
inside each tower, that changed colour slowly, which looked truly awesome.
Check out the video below to see the effect.

The installation managed to survive most of the festival - though if you've
ever done this kind of thing before you have to reserve yourself to the fact
that 20,000 drunk and high under 25's are going to think it quite funny to
try and climb the art. Luckily nobody did, but 2 of the vinyl panels were
stolen, and people were constantly climbing inside. Overall the crowd
wasn't too naughty.
Here's a video of the installation showing the light effect:
