We had a business meeting on the floor of the FIFTY24SF Gallery, home of his "Character Assassination" exhibition, opening this Friday, but that only lasted about a half hour. More on business later, maybe in a few weeks, but David Choe is very much back in San Francisco, and very much setting up shop at the gallery. Most of the conversation circled around the Kabuki Hotel, Charlie Isoe, painting in cold places, finding a bride in Russia, a threesome, painting this show in San Jose, and painting on the street with Conor Harrington. And there was some business, but this was business.
David painted the walls black with spray paint sketches throughout, and his framed limited prints on one side, brand-new canvases on the other. The work is beautiful, the titles are even better, and the presentation is flawless. After reading this interview of David Choe on the Citrus Report that my buddy did (see I give you ups!), I brought the camera out, took some shots, talked about baseball wallpaper and sports gambling.
There's Dave.
A wall of new original art.
Dave said he was getting annoyed/angry with the people hanging around the studio in San Jose, hence the red.
I recommend looking at the title of the pieces if you go to the show...
The smallest piece at the show, but one of my favorites.
After seeing how many prints Dave had, I can't imagine you are going to see much of his wall art when its all up, so look at it now. This show is going to have a lot to look at.
Dave explaining how to paint.
Lynzy of FIFTY24SF at the computer, intern measuring the pieces, resident Evan blog photographer taking a picture of them doing this.
Dave before he smashed the camera. No he didn't. He invited me to dinner.
Love this piece... a good centerpiece.
More business. That is Jason there to the right. He is going to write for us in the future... maybe about Dave, maybe about life, maybe about gambling, maybe about dolphins and narwhals, the unicorns of the sea. You never know...
One last time with this one, because Dave was explaining how to draw a women.... Dave look forward to seeing you on Friday.
