This last Saturday night, M Revelli, Lynzy Blair of FIFTy24SF,  and myself headed down to the Laguna Art Museum for an opening of Jeremy Fish's first museum show, "Weathering the Storm." I guess I didn't know what to expect, but once we got there it was amazing to see how many people came out to support Mr Fish; friends, fellow artists, fans, the curious types, members of the museum, all different, joined and made the opening a pretty special evening.

A big contingent of SF folk made the trip down, which I'm sure Jeremy enjoyed. I got to see some friends I hadn't seen in awhile as well, so goddamn, who would have thunk I needed to get to Laguna to see people that live in SF?

Finally, I got to meet Travis Millard and Mel Kadel (three year email relationships are funny things, I almost cried when I saw them, as if we all just got back from the war), Nathan Cabrera is a good dude, Mr Jon Dragonette and Zell Dragonette were great to see, John Trippe, the Grolsch, the Mike Giant look alike that I gave all my drink tickets to... the list goes on.

Jeremy, shocked that Revelli and I were there. In the flesh.

Walking in, wait for it...

Weathering the Storm. Weathering a Storm.

There we are.

And now, art. Very, very good art.

I was trying to get this older lady to pose with Jeremy's work. She was intently looking at every piece down this hallway, and I tried to shoot her portrait about seven times, and all I got was her hand. I think this is because my lens doesn't zoom in and out, or she just wanted her hand to present the piece.

Kind of random to this post, but this was a nice Sandow Birk piece downstairs. Laguna is a really nice museum if you haven't been. There is also a good Mexican restaurant next door that really skimps on the chips and salsa but you just sort of need to go with the vacation flow.

Jeremy holding court next to Jon and Zell Dragonette. Have you ever heard of the band Dragonette? He's not in it.

Yes, yes, a picture of a picture of a picture.

The crowd. A very good turn out. . .

More from the LA/Laguna/Venice trip soon..

Dear Jeremy and the good folks who put this article together,

Jeremy, your work makes me feel like a child. Literally, it transports me to a better place where dogs are not just things I pick up shit for, they are personalities and tales and stories of silly delight and of running away to be a hobo or to go to the sea and let the fates have their way with me. The pieces are sneaky and wise, clueless and fumbling, and I would stare at any of them for years and still find captivation.
You are my Sendak.
