As a working artist, Jason Jacenko honed his skills as a tattooist since the early 90s and in turn, tattooing has profoundly influenced his very own style. Jason has been painting since he was but a wee pup, but works with a number of other mediums as well, including toy design, sculpture, and computer.
Through aiming at using and combining as many mediums and techniques as possible, Jason’s art and the characters he creates, take on life and a personality of their own. Jason states “the trick is to let the subconscious underlying force drive you. It’s like team work. I just give into it and have fun. Often my work expresses present life situations even if I do not fully understand at the time why I have done a certain piece”

Jason’s profession as a tattoo artist allows him to have daily contact with people whose behaviour always surprises and amuses him. He has learned that life is not always the way it seems. A lot of people take things at face value. The images coming out of his head are very personal, but they also raise issues, feelings and behaviour that are familiar to everyone.

Jason explains “my art appears to people on different levels. Even though it may seem cute and fluffy on top there is always a sinister twisted meaning. It is up to the viewer to receive that message, to get a glimpse into another world other than their own and perhaps evolve with it. My intention is to stir up the viewer’s emotions on a deeper level, to bring the viewer out of their comfort zone so they stop think and question.”
