Detroit, MI - On October 29th and 30th (Devil’s Night) 2009 at the Tangent Gallery/Hastings St Ballroom in Detroit, there will be a congregation of 140 of the most controversial fine art artists from across the world to display over 200 of their darkest of creations at DAMNED II: An Exhibition of Enlightened Darkness (www.thatdamnedshow.com).
From rock legend Marilyn Manson and Swiss Surrealist/Oscar winner HR Giger to the freshest of local and international talent, this ominous assembly will exhibit a diversity of artistries from the deeply depraved to the intensely introspective guaranteed to intrigue, disturb, captivate or repulse. This is not Halloween-themed art but a submergence within the shadowed realms of consciousness through an unique ambiance of ethereal sounds capes, art-inspired gallery vignettes and cirque/butoh-inspired stage performances. Then, on Devil’s Night, DAMNED transforms into a sensuous celebration beginning with an intimate six-course presentation style aphrodisiac dinner followed by a formal masquerade ball with the noir cabaret sounds of Jill Tracy (San Francisco) in a rare solo performance.

DAMNED, first and foremost, is an exhibition of the intensely personal creations that are often born from within the artist’s most darkest hours. This art can be the grace that returns them towards the light, the guide to discover new paths of self or simply the embodiment of rages, denials, abandonments and realizations. DAMNED then cultures an intriguing visual ambiance of art inspired performances with the region’s most creative talent including circus hellion Miss Pussykatt and the Devil Dolls, the dementias of Satori Circus with Warrior Girl and the exotic graces of Chantal and Rabbit. Also added is the aerial elegance of Detroit Flyhouse, an evocative live music performance by Hayley Jane with others still being added. Aurally, the haunting gallery soundtracks are custom designed by Life Toward Twilight with the mesmerizing live strings of Dixon. Other treats include a formal absinthe tasting courtesy of Lucid Absinthe with representatives demonstrating proper drinking rituals, on-site tapas chef, a harem room-inspired VIP mezzanine, a custom surgical stainless steel Detroit Deconstruction Skull Ring giveaway ($980 value) courtesy of Atelier Gothic Jewelry, our Devil Girl hostesses, a gallery store to purchase art and more to come.

On October 29th, the DAMNED festivities begin at 7pm with a VIP Preview/Artist Reception/Absinthe Tasting with the general public opening at 9pm until 2am. General 18+ admission is $6.66 in advance and $9 at the door with $2 door discount with canned good donation for the Burners Without Borders Detroit food drive. Limited VIP is $25 in advance and $33 at the door. No dress code but red dressy/sexy Devil-wear is greatly encouraged.


On October 30th, the optional intimate aphrodisiac dinner is strictly limited to 64 available seats and is $49 advance reservation only. This also includes the masquerade ball, Jill Tracy performance and VIP lounge access throughout the night. Doors will open at 6pm to review the exhibition with seating to begin at 6:30pm and dinner starting promptly at 7pm. After 9pm, Masquerade Ball/Jill Tracy 18+ admission is $9 in advance and $13 at the door. This night is mask mandatory and proper attire only. No character/monster/hero/novelty costumes or masks will be allowed.
