Since I’ve been running Gallery Six the past few months we’ve had some pretty epic openings. This past opening of Local Love topped them all starting off with a bang, literally.

Outside of Local Love art show
As people started to show up, crack open their beers and get situated with the surroundings, one of the local 6th St wanderers graced us with some “performance art”. He was pushing a baby carriage with a large TV from the early 90’s with no shoes on and purple toe nails. This is nothing out of the ordinary so we were shocked when he dumped the TV directly in front of the gallery, staring at it blankly. He then pulls out a crow bard, as a warrior in battle might, and swings it into the TV with full force. The screen shatters and smoke starts to fume from its innards. He then turns holding his sword high as if victorious and wanders back to his dark corner.

We were all dumbfounded and frightened for a minute then amazed at the sight. As the TV continued to smoke, graffiti kids ran up and started tagging the rubble until another stranger started pushing it down the street, into oblivion. It was unforgettable. Later that night the same purple toed dude hooked up to two amps and played the electric guitar across the street. Even though it was a bit sketchy it was one of those things we thrive to experience in the city, and thus local love was a hit, not to mention the lovely art. Check out some pictures from the opening reception.
