Golden Gate Fields. On a Sunday. $1 parking. $1 admission. $1 hot dogs. $1 beer. And this is where my best friend decided to have his birthday. Can't complain, it was an interesting location to see how indeed the recession effects our gambling habits. I don't know much about jockeys and horse racing, but I do know how to gamble, I don't know how to bet on sports or races, so it was just going to be a crap-shoot regardless. I brought the old camera out and shot what I saw . . . I lot of people betting and a lot of horses strutting.
This post has nothing to do with anything except for the fact that I remembered to bring my camera... and I have a blog, so off we go...
Flags were a waving in Berkeley/Albany. At this point I'm shocked at how busy the parking lot was. I guess no church on Sundays anymore.
My first horse sighting. A big deal. I thought I was supposed to bet on this guy, but it turns out this was a GGF staffer. What the hell did I know?
The gates of heaven, or just the gates where the put horses the run really fast...
Personally, if I'm going to bet on horses, I want the full view of the race from above. Alas, my spot for the first few races.
Water . . . . er.
The cuisine of kings and horse betters.
After awhile, I walked down to check out the horses when they are shown to you prior to running fast. This guy knew what was up. I tried to follow his lead. I don't think he was about to share any secrets, but I tried to read his poker face.
All the pretty horses. I'm not even a Cormac fan.
Something with the water...
I want that one...
Maybe that one. 16-1 odds. Not a good pick, unless he wins and you get yer money and you get the ladies and you are the big winner at the track today.
Here they come down the home stretch.
There goes #4. He was supposed to win, so no big deal. I made no cash on this win.
That was my horse in 2nd place. Well, it could have been worse. I could have lost $3 instead of $2.
I have no idea if this ticket did anything for me. In fact, I could have won money at the track, but the line was too long and I didn't really care at the end of the day. It would have been like $10.
