What/who are your major influences and inspirations?
I'm entranced by how female beauty has been portrayed through the ages. I'm a great admirer of the french neoclassical painter, Ingres; also Tissot, Manet, Mucha, the list goes on and on. Historical costume is a great love of mine, and I try to find any movie or book on the subject. People that I meet and who are in my life are also great inspirations.

After so many successful solo shows in America why did you decide to show in London NOW?
I think it was a matter of timing and really, a great opportunity I couldn't pass up. Corey Helford Gallery and Stolen Space are the good people who have made this possible.

The paintings for your upcoming show are quite different from previous shows, is there a reason?
The Catrina paintings I've been doing lately are still a great source of fun and there's a lot of love involved in them, but I think it was time to change it up a bit for myself. It's nothing earth shattering yet, but I see the process as a slow evolution, some things die and change. Also factors in my life, inspirations and influences are in constant motion.
Have you ever considered painting men?
Perhaps one day. I'll be having a large break after this show, so we'll see what new things I will paint.

Can you talk briefly abut the process of creating one of your paintings?
I start from shooting a few models, then looking thru art books, magazines, research on the internet, draw/sketch, and finally paint.

Why do you paint on wood?
I like the grain, hardness, and stain quality of the wood.
Have you ever considered using other mediums or doing 3D work?
Sculpture, perhaps collage, installation work may be down the line for me.

What makes a good day in the studio?
Starting early and painting steadily thru the day into the night makes a good day, especially if i'm listening to some good jams.

How many hours a week do you spend in the studio?
It seems like i'm always in the studio, time kind of blurs. I live and work in a one bedroom apartment and it's pretty consistent that i'll spend all day in the studio, painting here and there.
How do you spend your time when taking a break from painting?
Exploring Los Angeles, traveling, hanging out with friends, running a few miles, i've also been known to play hours and hours of video games.

If you didn't paint for a living what would you do?
Probably creating something, a chef. I love food and feeding people.
Three things that bring a smile to your face?
My two cats, love, art
